KDU UC at the UiTM IV 2010!!!

                      Picture
The UiTM Inter Varsity Debate Championships were held on the 26th till the 28th of November and saw 60 teams vying for the title of Champions. Teams from Malaysia included institutions from UiTM, KDU, UKM, CFS, HELP, UCTI and many more. The National University of Singapore also sent two teams to compete in this IV.

The tournament was run very well by the organization committee and saw participants complimenting their efficiency as well as the amazing food that was provided. The adjudication core led by Sherrie (UTMARA), Tharishni Arumugam (UM) and Hasif Murad (Monash) provided us with excellent motions as well excellent adjudication.

KDU sent two teams. KDU A consisted of Adrian Kelvin Cheong and Don Siron Pereira. KDU B saw Ranjani Dhanabalakrishnan and Lily Foong. Both teams broke into the Quarterfinals 8th and 5th respectively. The motion tabled was “THBT Aung San Suu Kyi Is No Longer Relevant” and KDU A had to beat MCMS (A team from UiTM Shah Alam) and UTMARA 2 (also from UiTM Shah Alam) to progress to the Semifinals of the tournament. The motion in the Semifinals was “THBT Wikileaks Should be Held Accoutable for Their Actions” and KDU A managed to outshine UTMARA 1 (Uitm Shah Alam) and NUS 2 (National University of Singapore) to earn a spot in the Finals.

The finals saw KDU A, UCTI 2, UTMARA 3 and MC Stiff’s Homeboyz (a composite team) debate the motion “THBT Population Growth and Not Economic Decisions Are What Drives Resource Depletion”. KDU A unfortunately had to settle for Fourth Place in the Finals after a valiant fight.  MC Stiff’s Homeboyz, consisting of Tariq Maketab from UTMARA and Ashok Rai of NUS, took the title of Champions.

Ranjani Dhanabalakrishnan was named one of the top Ten Best Speakers of the tournament after she ranked 8th out of 120 Debaters.

KDU has definitely planted a lasting impression in the minds of everyone present at that tournament, materializing the idea of “People Inspire People”.

Adjudication Core for the 2nd KDUDA Pro-Am IV Debate Challenge 2010

Introducing the adjudication core for the tournament!!!

Chief Adjudicator - Fareez Zahir of the International Islamic University

                      Picture
Fareez Zahir is a perfect fit to a tournament that promotes new, extreme and fun ideas. When asked of his achievements, he roughly seems to remember being Champion of the Royals Inter Varsity Debate Championships, arguably one of the most prestigious debate tournaments of the land, THREE FREAKING TIMES. Breaking at Australs Sydney and also being Semifinalist at AUDC is only to name some of his achievements. =) Fareez's love for debating is only preceded for his love for his girlfriend Nabilah, and his favourite spot for good ol' banana leaf lunch, Vishal.

Deputy Chief Adjudicator - Siron Pereira of KDU College

                      Picture
Siron makes up the first part of the juniors of the adjudication core. He promises that this tournament will be a developmental one and will incorporate everything he's learned from his one and a half years of debating. Breaking at the Singapore Debate Open in 2009; a Semifinalist of MMU IV 2009; and making it to the Finals of the Iskandar Debating Championships recently has only taught him that he's got to freaking incorporate more fun into debating tournaments! As an adjudicator, he's been the Chief Adjudicator for the 1st KDUDA Inter High School Debating Championships as well as a finalist adjudicator in many local tournaments. Siron says that he is also most obviously the more good-looking part of the adjudication core. =) Being the most random/fun/macho person on the core, he promises the motions will be similar. =P

Deputy Chief Adjudicator - Aina Syazwani Salleh from UT MARA

                      Picture
Aina hails from the great above, Penang. Having said that, please prepare for motions in relation to their great culture, which the remainder of the adj core is sure, she will try to push in somehow. =) Debate has been a passion for Aina and she brings the 'funky' element to the core. Aina has been a Quarterfinalist at the recent UADC, the Junior ROYALS Champion of 2009, the Arau Open Champion of 2008 as well as many other titles that proves her skills. Her awesome personality and curls will neutralize the adj core (maybe), and provide even awesome(r) motions.

To be PART of THIS AWESOME TOURNAMENT, we would like to humbly request for your registration. You may REGISTER HERE.

The Annual Teo Soo Pin Challenge Trophy goes to the LAW SCHOOL!!!

                      Picture
KDU DJ, 21st August 2010 - In a tournament that saw at least 20 teams from various schools in KDU College, the top four teams that dominated the tournament and emerged as Finalists were from the School of Pre-University Studies (Team Black & White), School of Law (LAW B), School of Information Technology (Team Power Rangers) and the Champions were from the School of Law (Team Ultraman Taro). The team consists of Ranjani Dhanabalakrishnan who is currently in her 3rd year of Law and Don Siron Pereira, who is also in his 3rd year of Law at KDU College. The best speaker for the finals was Mahherrajan Narayanan from Team Black & White. He is currently pursuing his A-Levels qualifications and hopes to continue his degree in the UK late next year. Topping the tabs was Julius Yee Sher Xern, also from Team Black & White. He is as well pursuing his A-Levels qualifications to continue a degree in Law late next year.

Congratulations to the Law School in bringing the trophy back!

The Iskandar Debating Championships Finalists! KDU!

                      Picture
UTM JOHOR, 9th August 2010 - The team consisting of Qureysh Yunus and Don Siron Pereira fought their way through an Asian-level tournament to reach the Grand Finals. The tournament saw various experienced teams from all over Asia vying for the title. Some of the participating institutions include, the International Islamic University, National University of Singapore, Singapore Management University, UiTM Shah Alam, Lyceum University, and many others. They managed to make KDU proud in reaching the finals only after a year of debating in the scene!

Other achievements at this tournament included KDU B (Adrian Cking and Keana Reinu) making it to the Quarterfinals of the tournament as well as Tan Sue Vern breaking as a Semifinals adjudicator!

The team is only motivated by this and will continue to stamp KDUDA's name as much as they can!
